The brand new GPS lap timers for motorsports

Introducing the new AiM Solo 2 GPS lap timer. The new Solo 2 receives data from two satellite constellations: GPS and Glonass. This new approach over the traditional GPS method greatly improves the speed and precision of the old Solo lap timer. Lap times can now be calculated within a maximum error of 2/100 sec.

Solo 2 has a database of over 2,000 tracks worldwide. As soon as the device is switched on, it identifies its position and recognizes the starting line coordinates of the track, and starts sampling lap times.

For tracks not in the database, the Solo 2 device realizes this and switches to learning mode where it automatically understands the characteristics of the track and will provide accurate lap times anyway.

The display can now be configured in 7 different colors.

The LED's on either side of the screen built into the chassis are now also be configurable.

Data recall on screen

Data can now also be recalled on the display right after your test without the need for a phone or PC.

Wi-Fi Communication with the PC

Solo 2 now communicates with your PC via Wi-Fi connection eliminating the need for cables when downloading lap data, managing the track database, or when configuring your Solo 2.

Solo 2 DL, the Solo with ECU connection

The Solo 2 DL comes with an additional input jack which receives data from one of the three following sources of your choosing:

OBD Port

You can plug the OBD cable directly into the 16-pin OBD port on vehicles from 1996 and newer. Please note that some earlier model OBDII systems communicate rather slowly and make this method of connection, less than ideal.

More than 1,000 protocols for 1,000+ ECU in the database, for easily connect your Solo 2 DL to your Engine Control Unit and get a lot of information with just one cable. In case your ECU protocol is not in the database, no problem: an ECU Driver Builder is always available in the Race Studio 3 configuration software, and you will be able to create your protocol by yourself.

Hardwire (CAN Stream)

This is the best option if looking for a faster data feed and more available data options. Many older cars do not transmit specific data through the OBD port. One example would be that of the E46 M3, which does not provide throttle or steering position through the OBD port. This would significantly reduce the effectiveness of your data overlays for analysis thus making lap time improvements more trivial. Using the CAN option here would be better.

This option while more time-consuming (and albeit more difficult) to install provides the best connection to your vehicle as once installed it is cleaner, faster, and provides more real-time data for you to analyze.

Coil RPM Input

Designed for pre-OBDII cars (1995 and older), this option simply connects to a spark plug wire or coil connector to read RPM data.

Solo 2 DL now features a digital input allowing to log RPM
either from square wave signals (8-50 V signal)
or pulse signals (150-450 V ignition coil trigger - primary circuit).

SmartyCam HD connection

Combine your SmartyCam HD and ECU cables (sold separately) with your Solo2 DL and get all the data from your ECU, merge them with the GPS information and transmit everything to the SmartyCam HD, which will show them as a graphical overlay on your videos.
